B'nai B'rith is one of the world's oldest service organizations, having been founded in 1843, and is active in 56 countries on 6 continents. Through many avenues, including B'nai B'rith units such as Justice Unit #5207, the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, B'nai B'rith Hillel, the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, and our Centers for Public Policy, Community Action and Senior Services, B'nai B'rith members make a difference for the community by making significant and positive contributions. What is the B'nai B'rith Justice Unit?
Justice Unit #5207 is a local chapter of B'nai B'rith International. Its members consist of Jewish attorneys and judges, located primarily in Broward County, Florida. The Justice Unit has provided an important avenue for civic and social involvement of our members, and has carried on the ideals of B'nai B'rith.
When and where are the Justice Unit's meetings?
Justice Unit #5207 usually meets for a buffet lunch at 12:00 noon on the last Friday of every month, at the AutoNation Tower, located at 110 S.E. 6th Street, directly across from Broward Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Meeting notices are sent by e-mail. The cost for lunch is with a special rate of for attorneys practicing less than 5 years. What kind of events and activities does the Justice Unit sponsor?
Our signature event is the Justice Unit's Tribute Brunch in the fall, honoring one or more individuals of note who have made significant positive contributions to our community. We also participate in such events as Law Day activities, the 17th Judicial Circuit's judicial robing ceremony, and other functions with the Broward County Bar Association and other Voluntary Bar Associations.
Our members have assisted the residents of Hatikvah House in Coral Springs with such projects as building a succah to celebrate the holiday of Succoth and the development of a garden for their enjoyment.
Our projects have included sponsoring a presentation of B'nai B'rith Justice Unit Book Awards and cash prizes to the law students receiving the highest grade in Constitutional Law at Nova Southeastern University Law Center.
Recently we provided roundtrip airfare so that a child under the care of JAFCO (Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options) could attend summer camp.
